Gaffas Corner

Recent form has raised the expectations of all at Tarporley Vics Football Club. However it is important now that we do not get carried away and concentrate purely on winning our next game of football.
On one hand, the recent results at Maine Road have allowed us to slip, almost unnoticed, back into the equation, on the other, we have kept the pressure on with recent solid, back to back performances, to which the victories were richly deserved. Though in fairness I don’t think anybody would have predicted such an alarming dip in results from the Mancunian outfit. It is known, when sides are faced with 3 games in a week, they drop points, I have said this before and this has proven the case again, but my take on it is simple, other teams must not be in our thinking, not now, not with such an important run in imminent, from here on in, it is all about what we do and what we deliver.

From here on, it is all about delivering as many of those 30 points available as possible, we know who we need to catch, so the more points we haul in, the closer we get to the Top 2. My primary focus is ensuring that the squad stay both fit and fully focused for the next game alone. We have set our standards and expectations in the past couple of games, but least we forget, the 2 previous to those were both disappointing defeats, so, as I have said to the players, the recent wins have created our platform for us to attack with, keeping that momentum going from here is simple, as long as we are fit and focused on our next game only.

In as much as we chase what’s above us, we need to be mindful of what teams are in the chasing pack. The recent victory at Barnton was a real benchmark of how to win in the big games, in beating them we created that gap between us, that allows us to focus more on chasing the teams in front, rather that having to look over our shoulders at teams trying to catch us. This weekends trip to Moore Utd is a classic example of that, one of only 4 teams that I believe, are in the mix for a top 2 place. That’s what makes it such a big game, the result could effectively shape either sides season, though there is still time to react to a result, you have to go and get that win, at this stage of the season, that is key to how we approach every game.

It is now a case for us to not just want it, we have to go and get it and not rely on other teams, we need to work hard to ensure we have our own destiny held firmly in our own hands and simply deliver each game. We now have a solid platform to feel the confidence in our own ability after recent weeks, we must keep that going. I have a points total that I believe will see us succeed, but that is a personal opinion, my desire is by the close of play in this campaign, we are 30 points better off than where we are at my time of writing, that may be seen as optimistic, it is, but it is my ultimate desire not to settle for anything less. It’s that mentality my players are beginning to adopt.
