The strongest reserve squad this season took the trip to Chester Nomads to compete in the Chester District cup. A competition the reserves have not faired well in over the last couple of season. Vics kicked off against the wind and started well the back four combinations were talking well with Dave picking up all the bits behind them. Midfield was also competing well though we did struggle against the wind to get forward support. That said we did create and a great goal from Scott Armstrong put us in front after 20 minutes. The tally should have been added to but half time came and we went in 1 up.
Second half and playing with the wind we switched formations but Nomads were more difficult to break down than we anticipated and whilst they rode their luck at time they remained in the game and with 8 minutes to go worked their own real opportunity of the game to level at 1 a piece. Vics kicked up a gear and dropped to 3 at the back and pushed 5 to midfield and within 3 minutes, Scott Armstrong was fetched down in the box, Joe Marley converting the penalty. A despondent Nomads side suffered again 2 minutes later when Scott Armstrong found the nest again to leave the final score at 3-1
Managers Comments: A good game of football was played today by both teams, credit to Nomads for sticking at and the young Vics boys deserve some credit for their response when Nomads levelled. So often the team that has led for long periods become deflated but our determination won through well done boys.

A depleted squad and wind conditions today, with a number of players on 1st team duty or on Holiday. Vics played against the slop and wind in the first half and struggled to get prolonged periods in the opposition half. The long punt of Barnton Wanderers did pay dividends when they got round the back with a dubious offside to take the lead. This was increased by a well worked goal and a bit of slack marking in the dying minute of the half saw them score their 3rd from a set piece.
Second half and 3 down was a tall order. The wind had relented a little and Vics now had the game and spent prolonged periods in Barnton half, Scott Armstrong latched on to a nice through ball from Elliot Crabtree to pull one back. The introduction of Adam Walton resulted in a penalty but it was agonising saved by the post. Still pursuing Vics battled and pulled back a second with 5 minutes to play bit despite the best efforts couldn’t level
Managers Comments: A tough task today, the combination of player availability and the wind combined with a couple of errors meant there was too much to do in the second half, But on the positive side no player let us down and the attitude in adversity was great, two great aspects to bring future success

Tough away match as always at Sandbach Town but because of the schedule most of the squad was available. Vics started well the back four very composed with Sandbach Striker having no joy against Adam Williams, Nick Ball mopping up the other routes. Midfield was a fairly even battle but the wide play from Joe Marley and Scott Armstrong ably supported by Sam Winter just gave us the edge. A nice ball behind the back four saw Sam Winter pounce and lob over the head of the advancing keeper to give us a 1-0 lead.
Second half was more of the same, defensively we stayed switched on and moving forward continued to cause trouble. Ten minutes in and Joe Marley appeared to have outwitted the defence only to be brought down, Scott Armstrong converting the resulting penalty. Ten minutes later there was a repeat performance with Joe being chopped down having broken free but this time the ref waved play on. Dave McNeil and the back four remained resolute and strikers were not able to create any more rela chances so game ended with a very pleasing 2-0 win
Managers Comments: This was a quality game, very competitive but played in good spirit both sides trying their best. Great to have a team out that was approaching 1st choice selection, delivery and spirit were top class, a great game boys well done.

Today’s opposition are notorious for set piece play and today would be no exception. The young Vics squad set out at full pace and put a lot of pressure on the Bentley back 4, Tom Wilson picking up the first of the pieces to net the first of the game, this was added to with a delightful finish from Dan Ball, very shortly afterwards the inform Mike Chesters of Bentley pounced on an error to make it 2-1. Half time score stood at 2-1.
Second half followed the same pattern with biggest threat to the Vics from set pieces, Scott Armstrong pounced to make it 3-1 but against we didn’t hold the gap for long and it was that man Mike Chesters picking up the spoils to make it 3-2 and not long after the games went to 3-3. Vics continued to look for the win and a Luke Spedding goal 10 minutes from time looked to be enough but once again we succumbed to a set piece and Bentley levelled to leave a final score at 4 each.
Managers Comments: Difficult to determine if today’s result was good or bad, before kick off with the available squad a draw would have been a reasonable result but on balance of play and chances created it was a bitter disappointment not to come away with all three points

First game of the 2011-12 season, for the Vics Reserves. From not been able to field a side on Saturday the 20th, the squad although still depleted had swelled from 6 to 13 for this game. Vics set there stall out in expectancy of a traditional Malpas side but actually faced a complete change and the opposition were a very young side. The two side paired up and a great game ensued the advantage of an extra couple of years showed in terms of strength and when a half chance fell to Mike Gibbons he dispatched a great low shot to beat the Malpas Keeper. It was the same player 10 minutes later who added a second. Defensively the young Malpas side kept our back four busy with plenty of running and good work ethics
In the second half we waited a further 15 minutes before a Luke Spedding finish put the game beyond Malpas and gave us our first points of the new season.
Managers Comments: Very steady performances, against a new look young Malpas side. Some high quality football was played linking back to front and good work back to avoid conceding. A great set of building blocks to move the season forward.
